It’s been awhile since the last movie review so Dash sends his apologizes to you. With so much craziness in the housing and stock markets these days it is hard to focus on much else. I’ve always found a good way to take your mind off of things is to pop in a good movie, grab a cold beverage and some snacks and chill.
Ribisi’s character Seth is recruited to work as a broker for an investment firm. His job consists of cold calling potential investors and convincing them to buy hot Initial Public Offerings(IPO). Over the course of the movie he realizes the firm that employs him is not so legit and he comes to a moral impasse. Should he keep working at the firm, where he makes ridiculous money which allows him to live the high rollers lifestyle or do what’s ethically right? There is fantastic dialogue in this movie with a gaggle of quotable quotes. Ben Affleck, yes I said, it Ben Affleck plays a great supporting role, along with Scott Kaan and Nicky Katt. There is even a romance sub plot with the lead character and the afore mentioned Nia Long. What’s even more great about Boiler Room is that while this is a fictional story, operations like it exist all over the world and many a firm has been indicted for conspiring to swindle people out of their money. Essentially the movie is art imitating real life. On top of that it was released at the peak of the stock market tech bubble when people were throwing money at anything that was internet or technology related so the irony is uncanny. We will caution you that the language can be offensive at times so keep the youngin’s away while watching.
