As the grandson of a former Baptist Minister I’ve heard enough hellfire and damnation sermons to suggest that the end of the world is always only seconds away. Along with the sermons that scare you straight, I’ve also heard some very inspirational diatribes about how to overcome what’s hurting you.

Perilous times are generally filled with gloom, sadness and despair. CNBC, Fox News and MSN are depicting today’s quasi-recession as an unbeatable force that’s bound to destroy all mankind. The cost of consumer goods is rising at stupid levels and I’m not even going to talk about what it costs to fill up my gas tank. The fact of the matter is things are really bad for some people.

Isn’t it funny how old songs can apply to new problems no matter when they were recorded? One of my favorite groups of all time, De La Soul had a smash hit in early 2000 with a track called, “All Good”. The title sounds well enough, but the lyrics actually presented a different story. “It ain’t all good, that’s the truth things ain’t going like things should” is the hook that was melodically bellowed by Chaka Kahn. While this hook could be applied to just about any industries trials or tribulations, it couldn’t be more representative of what’s going on in the adjustable rate mortgage industry.
