Happy Independence Day to everyone. Even with all of our flaws, there is no place I would rather be.


 


The Labor Department said 62,000 jobs were lost from nonfarm payrolls last month, bringing losses for the year so far to 438,000 as a collapse in the housing market chilled growth. It was the sixth straight month of job cuts.


 


The European Central Bank or ECB raised its key monetary policy rate by a quarter point on Thursday, as widely expected, to fight rising inflation on the back of oil and food price rises and said it that it will continue to monitor the situation  very closely.  Big ups to ECB President Trichet.
